As of March 2026, India has expanded its protected area network to over 1,000 sites, focusing on strengthening tiger reserves and Ramsar wetlands. Key updates include increased financial assistance for voluntary relocation from tiger reserves (up to ₹15 lakh) and significant investments in restoration, such as the ₹308 crore plan for mangrove restoration, along with increased conservation efforts in the Nilgiris and Himalayan regions.
